Day 8: 1451 To Go
So 47 has frozen all federal grants and loans by executive order, has it?
I. Well, it should not be a surprise: I assume that everyone who voted for 47, read Project 2025 first? No, well its in there.
II. Just because it’s in a manifesto, does not make it legal.
III. In the co-equal branches, appropriations are under the authority of congress. So once monies have been appropriated for grants and loans to third parties (states, hospitals, schools, ….) the executive has no standing UNLESS there is specific proof of specific malfeasance.
IV.The mindset needed to attempt an overreach of executive authority like this is not just mind-bending, not authoritarian – it is KINGLY, in the sense of absolute dictatorship. If congress lets this ride also then in the space of 8 days it will have surrendered to a new dictator on nearly all of its functions of power in a democracy without a fight. Which can only go to show, the MAGA Republicans genuinely do want the republic to die on the branch.
V. As for what this means for the base? – Well, a blanket freeze on federal grants will impact every american differently but indiscriminately. Whether its a transport project that gets stopped or a hospital that is not funded. If you are affected by this, AND you voted MAGA in 2024, then all I can say is – they warned you themselves! So much like the “Its patriotic to pay more” memes now doing the rounds. I guess you ll have to argue its patriotic to be screwed over by the new King.
